The Arbitrum ARB Airdrop (March 2023)
1.16B ARB to users.
The token
Arbitrum's ARB launched on March 23, 2023, with a 10 billion supply. About 11.62 percent went to users, 1.13 percent to DAOs in the ecosystem, 42.78 percent to the DAO treasury, and the rest to Offchain Labs team and investors.
Points-based eligibility
Eligibility used a points system covering bridging, activity over months, transaction counts and volume; addresses needed at least 3 points. Allocations ranged from 625 to 10,250 ARB, and Sybil filtering removed clusters of linked wallets.
Claim day
Claim traffic congested Arbitrum and its block explorer, and ARB opened near $1.30 on exchanges. A recipient of 1,250 ARB had about $1,600 of tokens on day one.
AIP-1 controversy
The foundation proposed AIP-1 to ratify its governance documents and 750 million ARB budget, but had already moved some tokens. Delegates objected, and the foundation split the proposal, an early test of DAO oversight.
Rollup context
Arbitrum One uses optimistic rollups with fraud proofs and a 7-day challenge window. Its Nitro upgrade in August 2022 cut costs, and in 2024 the BoLD dispute protocol was proposed to allow permissionless validation.
